A world without access to energy - and solutions to provide it

1.6 billion people still lack access to electricity, 2.4 billion cook and heat with traditional biomass, energy efficiency and reliability are low. These are a core challenges for developing countries. For businesses the demand for energy provides a huge, still untapped market. Many companies provide energy solutions that can improve the quality of life for billions of people at the base of the global income pyramid (BoP) and boost productivity.

Low-Income markets in developing countries hence offer significant business opportunities in the energy market. However, doing business in the slums and villages can be a challenge.

The workshop "Energize the BoP - Energy business models for low-income markets" and the GTZ event "Energy Sector Dialogue" will support companies in learning to develop sustainable, profitable business models at the BoP.
